Мутагенного эффекта модифицирование — изменение частоты и спектра мутаций, индуцируемых определенным мутагеном у данного объекта, вследствие перемены режима мутагенной обработки, а также использования веществ, модифицирующих эффект мутагена, причем степень модифицирования зависит от времени действия модификатора (до, во время или после мутагенного воздействия). Мутаген-модифицирующие факторы разделяются на увеличивающие (сенсибилизаторы) и уменьшающие (протекторы) частоту мутаций и повреждающий эффект мутагенной обработки. Некоторые отдельные факторы и специальные режимы обработки мутагеном, снижая частоту хромосомных аберраций и повреждающий эффект его действия, могут одновременно удерживать и даже повышать уровень мутирования или репродукции, тем самым повышая выход мутаций в расчете на число выживших особей (см.
